“You chase flow states in COD. This game is one giant flow state.”

Risograph interpretation of Elden Ring
Why cross the street
  • if you love the mastery curve in competitive shooters
  • if you want open-world but hate Ubisoft
  • if you think difficulty is a barrier, not a feature

You know that feeling when a COD match goes perfectly — every shot lands, the flow state kicks in, the rest of the world disappears and nothing exists except you and the gun and the rhythm of the engagement? You’re chasing that. Every time you boot up a match, you’re chasing it.

Elden Ring is that feeling, distilled into a 100-hour world.

You will die. A lot. On the same boss, fifteen times, twenty times, more. And each time you’ll learn something — the timing on a dodge, the window for a punish, the tell before a grab. You’re not grinding. You’re learning. The same way you learn a map in COD — callouts, sightlines, spawn traps — except here you’re learning a creature that wants to kill you, and when you finally beat it, the release is unlike anything a multiplayer match can give you because it’s yours alone. No team carried you. No lag excuse. You got better and you won.

The open world is the delivery mechanism. It’s not a checklist of towers and collectibles — it’s a landscape that doesn’t care about you. You walk in a direction and find something. A castle. A dragon. A man in a mushroom hat who wants to sell you a spell. There’s no minimap clutter, no objective markers screaming at you, no “clear this area to reveal the map.” The world is the map. You explore because you’re curious, not because a UI told you to.

If you’ve bounced off Souls games before because they felt punishing or obscure, this is the one that fixed it. The open world means if something’s too hard, you walk away, go somewhere else, come back stronger. The game never gates you. It just dares you.

You think difficulty is a wall. It’s not. It’s a door. And what’s on the other side is the most compelling world any game has ever built.
